Nate Hardy Memorial Celebration

On Saturday May 10, at 3:30 pm in the Lundholm Gymnasium at the University of New Hampshire Field House, Durham, NH, there will be a celebration of the life of Nate Hardy, a Navy SEAL who was killed in action in Iraq in early February. Nate entered the Navy after graduating from Oyster River High School in 1997. In his short career, he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, served in four SEAL team deployments, and earned numerous medals including two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.  Nate was the son of Donna and Stephen Hardy, both long-time employees at UNH. He was the brother to Ben and Josh (who died in 1993), husband to Mindi, and father to Parker.

Storytimes – Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
Stories for the pre-school set come to life when told by Children's Librarian Charlotte Arredondo. Tuesday's storytime is for children ages 3 and up; Wednesday's storytime is for children under 3.

Book Group
How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk

Tuesdays 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Feb. 6, Mar. 6
The goal of the How to Talk So Kids Will Listen Book Group is to help us communicate more effectively with our children. Ellen Rondina, Extension Educator with UNH Cooperative Extension will be facilitating the group.

In each session of the workshop you'll be introduced to proven skills that will help you to cope with your child's negative feelings . . . engage your child's willing cooperation . . . discipline without hurting or alienating . . . help your child develop a positive and realistic self-image . . . foster a family atmosphere of love and respect.

Chess Knights
First and Third Friday of each month, from 3 to 5 p.m.
The Chess Knights meets from 3 to 5 p.m., with Terry Scott as facilitator. Players of all ages and experience levels are invited to come and play. Refreshments will be served.

Seacoast Reads – Schedule a time
Seacoast Reads returns to the library! This program is for 7-9 year olds (2nd and 3rd graders) who like to read and be read to. They will meet one on one with a UNH student afternoons after school. This program is designed to help struggling readers, and to encourage disinterested ones (although those who already love to read can also sign up). If you know someone who would benefit from this program, please contact Charlotte at carredondo@ci.durham.nh.us

Tales for Tails
Reading to a Delta Society trained therapy dog allows children to practice reading without judgment and criticism and allows them to associate reading as a pleasant and special activity. Beginning or reluctant readers are encouraged to "paws for reading!" Call Charlotte 868-6699 at the library to schedule a time for your child to read to a therapy dog.
